Hmmmmm also I'm starting to wonder if GPU (while certainly a weak point of my system) is my main issue here - a GPU only deals with how efficiently a graphic is sent from computer to display on screen right? If my issue is not how smoothly graphics move about on screen (lag) but about how long it takes Illustrator to process an action (loading) then while a GPU would enhance how smooth things move on screen (panning, zooming complex graphics) it's not going to help speed of processing actual editing of graphic elements?įor that I'm going to guess I may have to bite the bullet and save for new Mac with a more powerful CPU / ability to install more RAM.
ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR FOR MAC CATALINA UPDATE
My assumption is Illustrator would have always been affected by GPU (despite no preference option to choose GPU) but in the quoted update Adobe added some extra features in the way it can be enhanced / users can now choose GPU to use?

For the 2015 release of Illustrator CC, GPU Performance is available for both Mac OS and Windows, and it works with various GPUs.

GPU Performance was introduced in the 2014 release of Illustrator CC for computers running Windows with select, compatible, NVIDIA graphics processors.

I only ask as everywhere I search for info regarding GPU + Illustrator it's always CC onwards and even on they talk about it being 2014/15 when 'GPU performance' was introduced: Thanks for the you confirm if your 'yes' is from personal experience using Illustrator CS6 with an eGPU? If I should post in a different section just let me know - thanks! With the card I'm open to any options that are affordable and stable. With the case, being quiet is very important to me so if going with the AKiTiO or Razer I will likely be looking to fit new fans etc

and I can start asking the more fun questions leading to my first eGPU build If not, then the build would likely just happen a little later as no way I'm affording a Mac Pro so it'll be another Mini most likely. Guessing this isn't anywhere as complex as it feels but hoping the answer to my original question is yes an eGPU will speed up AI CS6 with large complicated graphics on my system. I really have no experience of purchasing Graphics cards so started browsing thinking 'ah yes I just need to look for a compatible card with the most VRAM I can afford!' (imagining AMD, NVIDIA would have a simple range on offer) many different versions of the same cards produced by many different companies later I'm feeling very out of my depth!

ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR FOR MAC CATALINA UPGRADE
So for those who plan to upgrade to Catalina and have the ability to update to a newer version of Illustrator, my advice is to update Illustrator first.I don't want to get ahead of myself but options I've been considering (if helps in any way to have this info) are the Sonnet Breakaway 550W / AKiTiO Node / Razer core X and what looks like to be most likely an RX580 of some kind?. This worked fine, so on that computer I can run Illustrator without issues. However, since I ran into this issue, I tried to do it in a different way on my other Mac: I updated from Illustrator CS6 to the latest version (23.1.1) before upgrading to macOS 10.15 Catalina. Their main advice is to downgrade to macOS 10.14 Mojave. Adobe is not able to help with this issue so far. So apparently it has some issues with installing ColorSync profiles. WARN: Unable to delete file at "/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Recommended". However, it crashes after 5% of the installation process with this error message: FATAL: Error (Code = 151) executing in command 'CreateMacAliasCommand' for package: 'AdobeColorCommonSetRGB_1_0-mul', version:1.1.4įATAL: Error occurred in install of package (Name: AdobeColorCommonSetRGB_1_0-mul Version: 1.1.4). So I uninstalled Illustrator CS6, then I ran the Creative Cloud app for installing the last version (Illustrator 23.1.1). I have an Enterprise license allowing me to install the newest versions of most Adobe software. I have some related advice, though (hope it fits in here). No, I did not manage to run Illustrator CS6 in macOS 10.15 Catalina, even if CS6 is 64-bit.
